Dr. Bao is the Co-Director of the Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies and Healthy Living at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. She was a joint faculty member at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) Integrative Medicine and Breast Medicine services and the director of the Integrative Breast Oncology program at MSK from 4/2014 to 7/2023. She is a board-certified breast medical oncologist and medical acupuncturist, and integrative medicine physician. Born and raised in Beijing, China, she received her medical education at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, with internal medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and medical oncology fellowship at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins University. She has conducted many clinical trials that examine the safety, effectiveness, and underlying mechanisms of acupuncture and yoga to improve cancer patients’ quality of life and to address treatment- and disease-related symptoms. Because of her clinical and research expertise, she is a member of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Physician Data Query Integrative, Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) Editorial Board. She is also a member of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Symptom Intervention Committee, and she is a speaker and panelist for NCI-conducted workshops on oncology acupuncture and cancer CAM. She is the past president of the Society for Integrative Oncology (SIO) and the Co-Chair of the SIO Education Committee.
Mingxiao Yang, MD (CMD), PhD is an instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School and a faculty member at the Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies and Healthy Living at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He received professional training in Chinese medicine in Chengdu from 2007 to 2017 and has been a licensed Chinese medicine doctor since 2013. Mingxiao has a keen interest in understanding the mechanism of integrative medicine. To pursue this interest, he received additional training in metabolomics science at UC Davis in 2015. He recently completed a three-year integrative oncology fellowship at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center from April 2020 to March 2023, following postdoctoral training at the University of Hong Kong. His research focuses on using evidence-based medicine research approaches to evaluate the benefits and harms of integrative medicine in managing pain, sleep disturbance, and other comorbid psychoneurological symptoms in the general population and people who experience cancer. He is now working with the research team led by Dr. Bao to develop integrative interventions to manage chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in cancer patients.
Anna Tanasijevic, MPH is the Senior Clinical Research Manager for Dana-Farber's Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies and Healthy Living. She holds an MPH in Epidemiology and Global Health from the Boston University School of Public Health. She has worked at Dana-Farber on the Zakim team since 2016, where she has grown to manage the Zakim Center's research portfolio, including the Bao Lab's work. She is passionate about lifestyle and integrative medicine interventions to improve the lives of cancer patients and survivors.
Mehul Shrivastava is the Clinical Research Coordinator for Dr. Bao's studies. She received her Bachelor's Degree in 2023 from Purdue University in Neurobiology and Physiology. She joined the research team at the Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies and Healthy Living in October 2023. She is passionate about public health initiatives and well-rounded, individualized patient care. She hopes to gain both clinical and research experience and attend medical school in a couple of years.
